About JSMC

Established in 2016 as part of the Khayay School by international classical pianist Kimball Gallagher in homage to his past mentor and piano teacher Joseph Smith, the Joseph Smith Music Center aspires to be a world-class music center in Yangon, Myanmar.

At JSMC, we provide personalized music lessons in various instruments and foster the learner's artistry and musical skills as well as a deep appreciation and love for music. Not only are our faculty members dedicated pedagogues, their extensive performing experience informs their approach and attitude in the classroom and in private teaching.

“We provide personalized music lessons in various instruments and foster the learner’s artistry and musical skills as well as a deep appreciation and love for music.”

At this center lives a Baldwin grand piano, which belonged to Joseph Smith and 21 Taiwanese children's violins. The Baldwin grand piano was shipped to Yangon by Gallagher from New York City and donated to the Khayay School, which marked the beginnings of this music center. The 21 Taiwanese children's violins were donated by Taiwan88 in support of the development of music education at the Khayay School. These violins are currently being used for violin ensemble classes during the regular school hours.

Lessons at JSMC are opened to Khayay and non-Khayay students as well. Please refer to the course offerings for more information and the registration procedure.
